B is for Belonging: does your classroom feel like their space?
Take a moment to reflect on your classroom entrance. When a child walks through the door each morning, what do they see?
What does a child see when they walk into your classroom?
- Is their name displayed somewhere they can recognise?
- Is their photo on the wall, at their peg, or in their learning space?
- Can they see their interests reflected in the environment?
- Are there little reminders that this classroom was prepared with them in mind?
What does belonging really mean?
Belonging is about more than having a place to sit or a name on a register. It’s about feeling seen, valued, and accepted.
When children see themselves reflected in their environment, they begin to understand that they are an important part of the classroom community.
Would you feel that you belong?
So, take a fresh look at your space. Imagine walking through the door as one of your children.
Would you feel that you belong?
Because every child deserves to walk into a classroom and feel, “This is my space. I am valued. I belong here.” 💚
